Authentication Prompt - Access DB 06 Dec 2007 23:09 #50

Hello,
I've created a fairly simple report using Crystal Reports XI that reads data from a MS Access database. At no time during the creation of the report did I have to authenticate to the database. The report runs fine in Crystal. Then I created a Logicity solution using Solution Builder on a separate system using Workspace mode, and then run the rdd file using Logicity Desktop and it still works OK. The rpt file lives on a network share which is accessable by everyone. I installed the 'lite' version of Logicity on another user's system to test the solution (this is actually who I designed the solution for) and I have the following problems: 1) double-clicking on the RRD file immediately runs the report rather than displaying the Logicity Desktop window in Workspace mode and, 2) the report prompts me to authenticate to the Access database and nothing I enter is accepted.
Am I missing something? Everything was going so well until I tried to demonstrate this great new solution and then it decided to quit working.
Help!
Thanks, Patrick

For what it's worth, I came up with a workaround. The original Crystal Report was using a native MS Access connection method. I revised the report to use an ODBC connection instead and, after creating the ODBC DSN on the user's system, the report works OK. Apparently, Logicity doesn't like using the native database connection.

Patrick,

I'll take note of that and see if we can't figure out why direct connections won't work. As for your first problem, you need to have a Pro key installed on the client workstation if you want to use workspace mode - that is why it is just running the report without displaying the window.

Thanks for posting your solution back,
Adam

Okay. Thanks for the update. I knew I needed the Pro key to use encryption, but forgot I also needed it for Workspace mode. One more reason for the Pro version I guess. Workspace mode is a much 'cleaner' view for the typical user. They doen't need to see the file path to the report.
