Invalid report path on Citrix 09 Feb 2008 01:46 #94

Logicity's free Desktop app is a perfect solution to our org's report deployment issues. We are trying to get it to work on Citrix for report deployment to internal and remote users without installing on each desktop (where it works beautifully).

The app installs just fine on a Citrix server using an install path of M:\Program Files\.... However, when double-clicking on an rpt file already confirmed to open fine in Logicity when run on the local desktop, we get the "report file path not valid" error.

I figure this is because of the M drive letter in the path, but have no idea how to fix it or if it can be fixed.

We are using Win2K on Citrix and the desktops. Any help would be appreciated.

The topic should say "path", not "part". Sorry.

What you need to do to change the path is go to my computer. Click on the drop down menu called Tools. Go to Folder Options. Click on the tab File Types, and find RRD. Click on RRD, then click advanced. If you click edit on the action Open and Edit you can change the path from C: to M:. Also, if you want to click on RPT file after RRD you can change the default program which will open your RPT files to Logicity.

Thanks!

We checked the File Types path, and it is M:. We also tried the viewer on a Citrix box that has a true C: drive and it works great, which means the viewer definitely has an issue with the non-standard drive mapping for the install location.

When trying to switch back to the M: drive Citrix box and running our test report, we got the following error, which is different from the original error. Also, the viewer asks for the report parms first, then gives the error. FYI, the exact same report runs just fine when the Citrix box has a true C: drive.

Msg Box Title: Crystal Report Windows Forms Viewer

Msg:
Not Implemented.
Failed to retrieve data from the database.
Error in File M:\DOCUME~1\jpratt\LOCALS~1\Temp\3\HPDueaud {F131F79E-A1AE-4FFD-A9C1-6C967817C337}.rpt:
Operation not yet implemented.

Please advise on possible fixes/workarounds. We would really like to have this run on a Citrix box with the local C: drive mapped as the M: drive. We would be happy to test a beta with a fix in it.

Thanks.

Did you change the mapping from M to C, that is what I meant to say in the first post, sorry. Give that a try.

Thanks,
Matt

Because it is a Citrix server with a custom mapping for the true C: drive, there is no actual C: drive on the server. When the user connects, the "C:" drive on the server is really their own local C: drive, which of course does not have Logicity or Crystal Reports on it. Since the viewer works fine on a Citrix server without the custom drive mapping (i.e. C: on the server is actually the server's C: drive), I must assume there is an issue with: a) Logicity's viewer itself, or b) some supporting component in the viewer, such as Business Objects' viewer control, the Java scripting code, etc.

It looks like we have to go with a dedicated Citrix box with a normal C: drive to make this work. We are out of time to test/develop a solution, and the Network Engineers want to avoid deploying the viewer on many desktops. Any input you can provide would still be welcome.

Thanks. JCP
