Logicity Workspace Mode

Overview

Logicity Workspace Mode is a convenient way to organize and run Crystal Reports.  Instead of having a separate shortcut to each available Crystal Report on a user's desktop, a single solution file can be created that includes each available report.   When the “Workspace Mode” is toggled to ON in the solution file, Logicity Workspace will open the solution file when executed instead of Logicity Desktop.  This allows the user to run any of the Crystal Reports (or other files) individually, as needed.  This allows administrators to set-up a single, clean interface for users with pre-defined ways of viewing or executing the report.

Using Logicity Workspace

Step 1 – Edit Solution File with Logicity Solution Builder

Open the solution file in Logicity Solution Builder.  Click the “Workspace Mode” button in the top toolbar.  The button will highlight, indicating that it has been toggled to ON.

Step 2 – Save

Save the solution by clicking the SAVE button.

Step 3 – Open the Solution File in Logicity Workspace

Next, double-click the solution file.  Whereas the solution would have opened and executed the solution in Logicity Desktop, the solution now opens in Logicity Workspace.

Step 4 – Execute an Action in the Workspace

To run one of the reports on the workspace, the user can simply double-click the action.

Options & Notes

  • Workspace allows users to display the actions in several different styles:  large icons, small icons, and list view.
  • The reports/files in the Workspace View are listed in the same order that they were built in using Logicity Solution Builder.

Encrypting Solution Files

Logicity solution files can be encrypted in order to hide database login information.

  1. Open the solution with Logicity Solution Builder.
  2. Click the ENCRYPT button.  This is a toggle on/off.
  3. Click the OK button.
  4. Click the SAVE button.

Password Protecting Reports

Logicity solution files can be set-up to require a password before the solution/report can be executed.

  1. Open the solution with Logicity Solution Builder.
  2. Click the SET PASSWORD button.  This opens a “Password Entry” screen.
  3. Enter a password.  Click the OK button.
  4. Click the SAVE button.

NOTE:  The password entered here will be used to protect your solution file.  Make sure you do not lose this password, as it cannot be recovered.
NOTE:  In addition to password protecting the RRD file, it will also be encrypted in order to hide the credentials.

Scheduling Reports

Logicity can be used to automate reports by scheduling them to run at regular intervals.  In order to do this, Logicity integrates with Windows Task Scheduler.

  1. To schedule a solution, open the solution file in Logicity Solution Builder.
  2. Click the SCHEDULE button to open the Logicity Schedule Solution screen.
  3. Select the frequency with which you want to run the solution.
  4. Complete the other information based on the frequency interval.
  5. Enter a username and password for access to Windows Task Scheduler.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click the SAVE button.
NOTE:  The entire Logicity solution file (RRD) is what is scheduled to run, not the individual actions within a solution.  Therefore, you must save the solution file for the first time before you can schedule it.
